Madame Butterfly, Giacomo Puccini's opera, tells a touching love story between an US Navy lieutenant and a Geisha. The plot is based on the Japanese anguish, waiting endlessly for the return of his love. When he returns to Japan, already married to another woman, the geisha becomes suicidal. The identity created for the opera is a breakdown of the elements of Japanese cultural traditions. The subversive elements like the butterfly, Geisha, Japan's flag and the technique of sumi- is, were the basis for illustration and were developed with real human blood.
